Slo mo

Hey there! I am with RR and Peejay. Here’s what I do, albeit a much slower approach.
If you have a spare piece of your veneer put a coat of resin on it just like you did on the boat. Let everything dry to the point of madness.
As I am a test shot freak…Sand the spare veneer’s resin evenly throughout and wipe with a rag with a bit of denatured alcohol on it. Then go light with a coat of spar varnish or a second coat of resin, thinned a bit with denatured alcohol and use a stiff brush to help keep the coat thin and even. If you like the result duplicate the steps on the boat.

I used Floquil model railroad paint over a fiberglass finish on my trawler, and it has lasted over 35 years. The fiberglass can be considered to be just your waterproofed. If you sand it to give a little ‘tooth’ to a subsequent finish, it should be fine.
So many ships . . . and so little time . . .

I say sand it good and put on a second coat. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 coats to look good. The first coat is always kinda ugly 😜. RR
