Its that laptop again!

Hi Rod, it would not do anything including a re-boot. The lights were on, but there was nobody in!

"When in doubt, REBOOT". This fixes most problems since abt 1994.🤞

Merry Christmas...

Holiday time hack attempts and malware’s abound. In the movie business where content piracy has become an obsession, our IT teams and digital security officers made sure we restarted our computers at least once a week as we all fall into the habit of never turning them off. You’d be amazed at how many applications you leave running on your computers without you even remembering to close them out! The IT folks also changed our workstation passwords once a month.
I am rambling on a bit…
But, if you ever suspect or notice a rise in hack email attempts (especially from places like your bank, PayPal, or Amazon) change your passwords. Also, as an added safety put a freeze on your information with the big three credit reporting agencies, Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian so if any of your personal information is stolen some hacker can’t get a loan or apply for a credit card where you are the fall-guy, as it were.

Thanks for all your responses. It did do a very long update on s/w when eventually it came to life. They all appear to have a mind of their own these days.
Working now!!!!

Hi,
On my desktop we ended up with a completely black screen not even CRTL+ALT+DEL worked. After a while I decided to just force a power off. Fortunately it seemingly came back OK! Also I'm using Windows 10 not 11. All rather weird.

Good morning Roy, my lenovo did the same, have just been talking to my nephew who is in "I.T." and he said it was an update which caused the issue. He will fix it for me tonight.
My lenovo thinkpad is 7 years old but is on win 11pro. So not just new computers affected.
Cheers Colin.
Fair winds and calm waters,
COLIN.

Its that laptop again!

Hi all last night I closed down my laptop all working nicely and went to bed.
I got up rather early cup of tea and open up the lid to the world.

Lovely picture and even an arrowwhich I could move, but otherwise it ignored me.

Seeking solace and help on the old laptop which fortunately did not seem to bear a grudge I put in my question.

My current one is a new HP Probook on Windows 11 so not expecting any 'funnies'.

After a long look it advised a factory reset holding down the start button (which is now a key on the keypad) for 45 seconds gets you a factory reset.

After 3 or 4 minutes it had gone through the process and I can now connect with the world again!

So what happened? Does anyone know?

Overnight, about 6 hours, it went from working fine to senility!

Would appreciate any ideas.
