it is a Range Safety Launch I was the coxswain of 1662 based at Londonderry in 1958

I have not seen the design before. Looks to me like someone has modified a kit. 😊

Hi,I agree that the ply is a afterthought as in the photos I’ve seen it appears to be missing,as you said ,it looks like it’s a range safety launch.I found these pictures of one that was in Malta being used for the coastguard ,I think I’ve found my colour scheme

hi there I believe this Launch has either been built from a plan or I believe that someone like Veron did do a kit similar to this - not sure if it was Veron but, I will have to have a look through some of our Model Boat books to be more precise. But, with it having twin shafts I believe it could more than likely be plan built. The bit of plywood over the back I don't think should be there (afterthought). You don't give the length but from memory it looks rather like the Frog patrol Launch designed to take the Frog 3.49 marine diesel engine. If this is the case it was a freelance design so you could paint it any pseudo-military colour scheme, but ideally something RAFish. I hope this is of some help. Nice looking model, let's have the dimensions, and a couple more pictures of front and back views, I think it might be a high speed patrol boat or police launch.
But in the model world it can be whatever you want it to be.
